Recently Google announced it was going to detect websites that have login pages that are not protected by SSL and mark those sites as 'not secure' in search engine results. We have noticed this is already occurring now and is also showing in Chrome.

There are three types of ‘meta tags’ that are commonly used for search engine optimisation. They are the Title tag, the Keywords tag and the Description tag.The first thing you can do is completely forget about the keywords tag.
The keywords tag was used in the early tags of websites (back in the 90’s and early 2000’s) and was used specifically to list all the keywords you want your website to rank for. Since then the major search engines (Google and Bing) have come up with far more sophisticated and complex ways of determining which words on your pages are ‘keywords’. The aim of Google and Bing is to deliver the most relevant content related to the search term that people are searching on. This is the number one reason why Google rose above other early competitors such as Yahoo and Altavista.. it was because they were able to deliver more relevant results which led to most people using Google as their main (or only) search engine.

This is the number one question we get asked by clients launching their very first website. Often many people assume that once their website goes live, people will be able to find them in the top listings of Google for any keywords related to their products or services.

When looking at search engines, it is best to first of all focus on Google. This is the most popular search engine and the majority of techniques used to get good rankings in Google naturally flow through to the other major search engines.
The major search engines such as Google, Yahoo and MSN find your site using a program called a 'spider' (or sometimes referred to as a robot). These companies have spiders going out on the internet gathering data on new and existing websites 24/7. They visit websites and try to work their way through all the links of the site and read the content of the pages to work out where to index the pages in their engines.
